Forget Valentine’s Day – it’s Moombahton Massive Week here in DC!  Wednesday’s Moombahton Massive XII will hold you down like no other.  U Street Music Hall is hosting the 12th Ed. of Moombahton Massive, which features some (but certainly not all) of moombahton’s cutest partnerships – Nadastrom & Sabo, Dave Nada & Jen Lasher, and of course, Heartbreak & Munchi.

Moombahton is all about keepin’ it real sexy.  Throughout its journey so far, there have been countless releases that channel some classic R&B tunes, deep house, and otherwise really exotic vibes that make everything hot on the dance floor.  MMXII’s lineup will most certainly be keeping it real hot and heavy on Wednesday night at U Hall.

If you’re all boo’d up, MMXII will be the hottest date you go on all year, no lie.  And if you’re ridin’ solo this year, no worries – spend some quality time with the Moombahton Family and hundreds of sweaty, dancing party people who are ripe for the pickin’.  And don’t forget – Mama Nada will be there with her famous empanadas so you can eat your feelings or make sure your boo’s well fed.  Seriously, Wednesday night will be a win-win situation for everyone involved.

It’s amazing to see how big the production duo Rez & Des have blown up in the past couple of months! It was just six months ago when I received a promo email from Des McMahon with the single Grind ‘n’ Roll that I had to make sure Tittsworh put in his iPod. Since then Rez & Des have been making some major moves in the studio, and I’m excited for what I’ve heard cooking from them in the kitchen. Grind ‘n’ Roll, the single that gave them momentum, is now out on Beatport with some pretty awesome remixes! The four remixes from J-Trick, Vito Smash, Secret Sauce, and Tactic range from rave-a-rific moombahton to future spacey sounds. This EP is definitely a good look for Rez & Des, and I know there will be a lot more to come for these cats!

When watching music videos from specific genres of music, there tends to be a trend amongst what is contained within the medium of film that translates to whatever the genre of music that is being visually represented. For example, with rap/hip hop videos there are always obligatory shots of jewelry, hot women, general opulence, expensive cars, graffiti walls, the ghetto, etc. With rock videos, they are usually performance driven, whether it’s a live concert music video, done in a vacant warehouse, or on a soundstage. With EDM music videos these days, they tend to be heavily graphic oriented, a lot of animation, and choosing otherworldly locations to bring the music of the track to visual life.

With Bird Peterson and Ocelot’s latest collaboration “Soul Survivor” they break the “traditional” approach to the EDM music video and opt for more of a traditional film to tell the visual story of the music. Going with a Robert Rodriguez inspired grindhouse look on the color grading, voiceover, and intro font, and using the plot that is reminiscent of the Paranormal Activity franchise, director Chris McInroy successfully blends genre’s, mediums, and the visual representation of the song to make this one of the best music videos to debut in early 2012. From fast and slow motion blending to using minimal special effects with maximum reward, the video has a nice build from start-to-finish that adds a visual dimension to the music these producers have crafted. Don’t sleep on Bird Peterson, Ocelot, or Chris McInroy this year; all three are poised to make big waves in the vast musical ocean of the entertainment industry.
