Thirst, What’s Yours? – By Jelani
If you’re familiar with the TED talks, than the idea of having compelling speakers is no foreign concept. We have been trained to give PowerPoints and lectures in school for years, but for the most part the skills that we learn create boring and dry presentations. The TED talks are a good idea, but it has become so popular that it’s now impersonal for the audience and people watching online. Thirst hopes to make presentations utterly fascinating by changing the format in which people share ideas.

Thirst is held in a bar rather than in an auditorium, and the speakers will talk to you on the floor rather than from a stage. When talking with founders Eric Schulze and Lori Noto about their vision, they described it best as a “sexy nerd house party”. This party will have speakers with different “thirsts” from film to biology, and all are people with a passion for what they do. The event has gained love from DJ Neekola who will be streaming her set, to CNN reporters that will stop by. Be sure to save August 25th for Thirst at The Bier Baron Tavern and experiment with a new approach to learning.
