The Social Tattoo Project – By Casey

Most people are too busy living their own “struggle” to truly recognize a crisis elsewhere, especially if it isn’t directly affecting their own lives.  We’re all guilty of it.  Maybe we’ll retweet a hashtag on Twitter or send a text from our phones to donate a few bucks to the cause, but otherwise, we just keep it movin’.  Would you be willing to take your commitment to activism to the next level by getting a tattoo to recognize one of these world issues?

The Social Tattoo Project has begun a social experiment via twitter where they compile the most popular hashtags that discuss world issues, like #Norway #Japan and #humantrafficking, to name a few, and they are transformed into meaningful tattoo designs.  Here’s the catch:  anyone who commits to getting the tattoo doesn’t know what they’re getting until they sit down in the chair.  Each tattoo selection is determined by popular vote.  Anybody can vote for an issue by tweeting #socialtattoo and the hashtag of your favorite trending topic to @social_tattoo (world issues only, of course).

What are your thoughts?  Would you agree to represent one of these issues for life?  Do you even think the tattoo is enough to inspire change in the world? Let us know!
