Kelly Towles has been a prominent member of our community for years now, and in that time he branched out to being a prominent member of many communities across the arts.

Coming out of the street art scene, Towles brushed his skills into galleries, up and down murals, through logos, and even across snow. In his own words: “I think everything is fair game. That goes for subjects, settings, materials, collaborations, dumpsters and food.”

Though he’s had work up through NYC and all the way over to LA, if you’re a tittsworth.com reader you probably see his handiwork every week. He not only designed the U Street Music Hall logo (and Nadstrom’s logo, for bonus info), but threw it up behind the stage, as well as orchestrating and executing the mural on the entrance wall.

We recently met up with him to walk through his re-tooled mini-homestudio. While we were there we a talk about the state of arts in DC, where arts and commerce meet, and how everyone can use a DIY ethics the achieve whatever arts based goals they desire. In the end it’s a fairly informative piece from a guy who knows what he’s talking about.
