Tittsworth: The Man Inside the Man, or, How I Kept 100LBS Off-By Tittsworth

You will be happy to know that in my manic man-o-rexicia, I’ve been
able to keep the pounds off while maintaining my ability to out eat
most of my friends (just not as often). It’s true, the last little
bit is really tough to get off but really did help make a difference
in terms of confidence, comfort and clothes that fit.
I’ve come up with a few updated tips which i came across while
polishing the (stretch marked) edges since my original article was
written (over 100 pounds ago)… (here is a backup for those not on FB)
- Buy a scale.. and use it!! You will fluctuate a few pounds
depending on how much water you drink, body type, bathroom breaks,
etc, but at least knowing your weight regularly helps keep you on track.
Try to pay attention to the week-to-week more than the day to day.
- When you’re in trim mode, eat when you’re hungry and do it for just
long enough to not be. If you wake up and you’re not hungry, don’t eat
until you are. Then eat until you’re not hungry, not until you’re
stuffed and not because it tastes good. Keep in mind you don’t want
to go TOO long without eating, especially as a metabolism speeds up
when you feed it regularly (small portions). Don’t just eat one meal
a day for those reasons. Eventually you will settle into a
consistent eating schedule, but in the meantime skipping a meal here
and there will really help, especially if you’re a desk-job type that
might go long periods of time being relatively stationary.
- Try not to eat close to bed. You’re just gonna wake up hungry
again!! You might as well do so without the regret and heaviness.
Treat yourself with a little something extra in the am.
(I normally don’t bother following through when the time comes anyway.. Or
even remember).
- A lot of people ask me what type of exercise should they do. I stay
on my feet a lot between clubs and trying to keep my car parked. I
also stay fit riding my beach cruiser that Lincoln made me. Ice-T says he
stays fit by crushin’ a lot. Whatever works, do it and stay
consistent but remember that it will not be enough to lose weight.
Like i said, it generally takes over a mile to burn a can of soda.
Once you start doing the math on a burger or some fries, you’ll
quickly learn that unless you’re a marathon runner, you better start
cutting calories. Be careful not to exercise just to be able to eat
either, you can quickly develop an unhealthy relationship with food
this way. Exercise is important to mental and physical health, and
once you get to where you want to be, it actually doesn’t take that
much to stay on track. Casual walking and 50 pushups / 50 sit-ups
keeps me pretty trim when I’m acting right (but wouldn’t have been
enough to get me where i am now).
- In addition to the previous note on calorie counting, 814ofCourse
put me onto calorie counting applications for your phone. This is a
quick way to figure out how many calories are in what you are eating
and how many do you need to cut in order to lose weight. A pound of
fat equals 3500 calories, get your math right!
- Get tattooed! As odd as it sounds, doing little things like buying
the occasional tank top or tattoo helps with pride in the body you
have worked hard toward. Enjoy things related to your physical
health- It’s good positive reinforcement.
- Our boy Diggy said he dropped pounds by quit smoking weed! Haha, real
talk though, i dropped 20 almost instantly when i quit drinking. Even
when i was drinking, switching from beer and bourbon to straight vodka
helped quite a bit, especially in combination with paying special
attention to late night snacks and hangover cures.
- Once you’ve gotten to where you want or need to be, you can
re-evaluate your relationship with food by eating more regularly,
eating more for pleasure, and striking a new balance. There’s a big
quality of life difference between cutting calories to lose weight and
being able to eat enough to break even. Make sure to experience one
of those break even days every now and then for reward (if you’ve been
acting right!). enjoy it and thinking about when everyday might be
like that.
I know as a country we tip the scale but it’s refreshing that
nationally we are increasingly focused on what we put into our bodies
and what we do with them. Keep it up; I’m proud of y’all!
